Originality and complexity of the project lie in the attempt to estimate these factors in a retrospective review. The present survey will be conducted as a panel approach to the respondents aged 18-54, formed during the “Parents and Children, Men and Women in Family and Society” Project, (Gender and Generation Program/ Survey).
Description of the project
In 2003 the IISP has accomplished the initial stage of the project which included translation of the questionnaire offered by the project partner Max Planck Institute for Demographic Research (Germany), its adaptation to the Russian conditions, taking into consideration unconventional forms of employment, typical for transformational period of the Russian labor market. Other elements of the survey frames were worked out (questioner instruction, interview conducting charts), and also series of initial interview with the respondents, representing the most problem social groups (persons of retirement and prerirement age, having long record of work, employees with the plural forms of employment, etc.) were conducted.
The sponsor of the project - partner Max Planck Institute for Demographic Research – in 2004 has accomplished the revision of the questionnaire, during which, in particular, the block of questions, regarding migratory biographies was included. As a result, the questionnaire is now directed at the obtaining of information according four types of individual migratory biographies: reproductive, migratory, educational and labor. Information concerning the first two types of biography is of reference pattern. Educational and labor biographies, on the contrary, are studied in details.
The questionnaire is organized to state main and additional types of respondents’ activity beginning from 17 years old till the date of inquiry. The main types of activity include education, work for charge and other types of activity (pregnancy, maternity or parental leave, official unemployment) depend on the nature of activity.
In the 1st quarter of 2005, the IISP has accomplished the translation of the questionnaire final version and its adaptation and modification in accordance with the Russian reality. The survey realization is planned in April – June 2005, and it allows getting the final data file in autumn 2005.
In the course of the survey, the respondents of 18-54 years old will be inquired. The planned samples volume is 6900 respondents. Inasmuch as the “Education, Employment, Family” survey is accomplished on the base of the “Parents and Children, Men and Women in Family and Society” panel, which in its turn includes the panel of the Russian Longitudinal Monitoring Survey, the present project realization will allow creating the unique base of demographic and socio-economic information about Russian population.
