Family Strategies, Labor Market Behavior and Fertility in Modern Russia

Financing: The project is supported by the EERC (Inc.) (Grant ¹ R04-9161). The Consortium is financed at the expense of the Eurasia Foundation (USAID , the World Bank, Carnegie Corporation, Government of Sweden, Royal Ministry for Foreign Affairs of Norway funds).

Project description:

The purpose of the given research is to reveal typical models of Russian people’s behavior in the sphere of employment and fertility for different types of households differing by family decision-making models.

Tasks of the research are the following:

  • to determine models of decision-making in households;
  • to develop typology of households with different models of family decision-making;
  • to estimate labor supply for different types of households;
  • to study correlation between fertility and employment and estimate the probability of the respondent’s intentions to have a(nother) child depending on his/her social and economic status in different types of households and for different types of value orientations, and the influence of the intention to have a(nother) child on labor supply decisions;
  • to formulate policy recommendations based on our empirical research of labor supply and correlations between employment and fertility plans that address to both issues of affordability and compatibility of children.
